PROJECT
When an Asian American film student goes on a trip with her emotionally-distant immigrant father to visit her mother’s gravesite, she makes a shocking discovery about her father’s past.
Andrew was brought on the project by Stanley Lin in late 2021, marking their third collaborative film project. This would be his first project with director Sharon S. Park. Andrew used piano and strings to spotlight the relationship between the father and daughter as they grow closer and began understanding each other.
Andrew also mixed the final song written by Katherine Ho, previously credited for the Mandarin version of “Yellow” by Coldplay on Crazy Rich Asians.
BACKGROUND
This project was made in collaboration with the University of Southern California’s La CASA – providing empowerment through cultural identity, leadership and social consciousness development, as well as community building for undergraduate and graduate students at USC.
This marks the third collaboration between Andrew and Stanley Lin. Stanley and Andrew were roommates during their first year at the University of Southern California. Stanley’s interest in producing and cinematography led him to graduating in the School of Cinematic arts and now working various independent projects. The two are frequent collaborators and occasionally reconnect while playing War Thunder.
FESTIVAL RUN
“Paper UFOs” went on to showcase at the Pasadena International Film Festival.
